The Graduate Management Admission Council, the organization which administers the GMAT, did research on numerous test results and discovered that the average score that is required from applicants to enter postsecondary schools is around 560. Depending on the preferred school and each year's applicants, this number varies. However, for some of the most elite universities there is a minimum score to be accepted and that is usually around 680-700. For example, the needed score for Stanford has not changed in the last years and remains 737. For Harvard and University of Pennsylvania, the result is around 730, while for Columbia University and University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) – 720. It is important to check the minimum required score for the university you would like to apply to and share it with us, so we have the right starting point for your preparation. Any score can be achieved with enough time and concentration from the student's side and guidance from an expert GMAT tutor.

I got a 730 (unofficially). A 44 quantitative and 47 verbal. Interestingly, my score on the verbal side went up on each practice exam and the actual exam, while my math score was exactly the same every time, even though I studied much harder for the math because I found it more difficult than the verbal.
