Many students do perfectly well preparing for tests in the company of others, deriving numerous benefits from learning in classroom-style group settings and gaining insights from their peers. Other students, however, do not perform at their best or learn to their full potential in group settings. They worry about the pace at which they learn, fearing they may hold the group back or fail to grasp an important concept before it is time to move on. Alternatively, they may experience impatience or frustration once they have mastered a particular topic but cannot move on to something new until more of the group has demonstrated similar mastery. If you know you learn best through a customized learning plan and one-on-one instruction, we invite you to consider working with one of our world-class private tutors. If you intend to take the GMAT, strengthen your preparation by participating in a private tutoring program created just for you and fully personalized to your learning needs. Every person learns in their own way and at their own pace, easily grasping some things while requiring additional time to understand others, and because of this, we are proud to offer private tutoring services to ensure you are fully prepared for the GMAT. Our private tutoring services are available to all clients, from students who recently completed their undergraduate degree to Fortune 500 professionals seeking to take their career to the next level through a promotion, pay raise, or other exciting opportunities.

Now, more than ever, a high GMAT score is incredibly important, and the highest scores unquestionably open doors for students and professionals looking to take their success to the next level. The Graduate Management Admission Council (GMAC), the organization responsible for the administration of the GMAT, tracks and reports statistical information about test-takers, studying them as a whole while also dividing them into subgroups. Total GMAT scores range from 200 to 800, and roughly two-thirds of test-takers will score between 400 and 600. According to the available statistics, the mean GMAT total score for all test-takers is 574. Top business programs around the world require very high GMAT scores. For example, the University of Texas at Austin, repeatedly ranked as one of the best business schools in the world, regularly has an incoming first-year class with average GMAT scores falling in the range of 650-740. When preparing your application to the business program of your dreams, make sure you stand out from the competition with application materials that shine.

Meet a Berkeley GMAT Tutor: Naomi W.

Naomi W. grew up in Washington, DC, and never really considered leaving her beloved home until she met someone from Berkeley on a high school student government trip. "Olivia—who I'm still friends with today—just loved the Bay Area so much, and to hear the way she talked about it made me curious. I loved the fast-paced energy of DC, but then again, I'd never lived anywhere else, and the idea of experiencing the West Coast just kind of stuck with me." Naomi obtained her undergraduate degree in business from Georgetown University before surprising everyone in her family by announcing that she intended to complete her MBA in California.

"I knew I would need all the help I could get to be accepted into a leading business program," shares Naomi. "I was fortunate to have an incredibly supportive family and between my baby-sitting work and everyone pitching in, I was able to work with a private tutor to prepare for the GMAT." Naomi recalls many of her friends thinking she was over-doing it by working with a tutor, "when really, I was just being smart," says Naomi. "I knew what I was capable of on my own, and I knew I could go farther with someone teaching me test-related strategies and holding me accountable for studying on my own." Naomi's hard work and dedication paid off and she scored in the 98th percentile on the GMAT, earning herself admission to countless leading business programs. She ultimately chose to attend Stanford University Graduate School of Business, where she focused on economics and improving developing economies around the world. After graduating, Naomi accepted a position with a global company headquartered in Berkeley that allowed her to regularly travel all around the world, and while she initially enjoyed this lifestyle, after a while she began to think of being at home more than just one or two weekends a month.

Naomi chose to settle in Oakland and switched to a position that didn't involve travel; while she enjoyed the chance to be home more, she missed meeting and connecting with new people. She accepted a mentorship position in her company and was surprised to discover that people enjoyed learning from her, appreciating her patience, her real-world experiences, and her ability to translate those experiences into valuable lessons. Naomi joined the team at Manhattan Review in 2018 and provides private tutoring to students preparing for the GMAT. "I wish more people understood it's truly possible to master a test," she says. "You don't have to be brilliant, and you don't need to be lucky. Being prepared is more than enough." When she isn't helping future business leaders obtain impressive GMAT scores, Naomi can be found working on her rock wall climbing skills, bicycling to her favorite local eatery, and enjoying weekend picnics at Tilden Park.
