The GRE is an important part of the graduate school application process, and this test is used in admissions decisions for graduate, business, and law school programs around the world. The GRE General Test is designed to closely reflect the sort of thinking employees and executives are required to perform in today's fast-paced business environments. The exam assesses verbal reasoning, quantitative reasoning, critical thinking, and analytical writing abilities, intentionally focusing on skills that have been developed and strengthened over a long period of time and can be applied to vastly different jobs and positions. GRE scores range between 130 to 170 in the verbal and quantitative sections of the exam, and the writing portion is scored on a scale ranging from 0 to 6 using half-point increments. In order to be competitive for the highest-ranking graduate programs, it is imperative to do well on the GRE. An average total GRE score is around 300, but for those seeking admission to the world's best graduate, business, or law programs, scores will need to be far above average. A score of 318 at the 75th percentile is considered "good," whereas a score of 329 at the 90th percentile is considered "excellent." At Manhattan Review, we can help you obtain those excellent scores and take the next step in your academic and/or professional life.

I was most impressed with how efficient Vince was with everything, he came prepared and he knew what he was talking about. I liked the efficiency. I already came in with a good idea with what I needed to work on and Vince was great in attacking my weaknesses. I cannot think of anything I disliked or that he could improve about his teaching style.

Meet a Flushing GRE Tutor: Morris B.
Morris B. grew up in a small town in Vermont and from an early age, he found himself fascinated with human behavior and why people made the choices they did. "I've always been the one sitting back and observing," he smiles, "but even though I'm quiet, I love getting to know people." Morris graduated from the University of Vermont with an undergraduate degree in sociology and found himself eager to know more. "I was really drawn to the idea of helping people, providing a safe space for them to talk about whatever was bothering them," he recalls.
Morris was never a fan of standardized testing and knew that in order to be considered by the most competitive graduate programs, he would need to excel on the GRE. He enrolled in a classroom-style group prep course, which he supplemented with a few private tutoring sessions, "just to make sure I knew what to expect and how to combine my own strengths with effective test-taking strategies." Morris did so well on his GRE that he received a partial scholarship to the University of Michigan and while he was there, he accepted a position working as a tutor in the graduate department's Science Learning Center. "Tutoring was another opportunity for me to connect with and help others, and it's something I really came to enjoy and look forward to," he shares.
After graduation, Morris accepted as job as a psychologist with a small organization in Flushing offering mental health support to marginalized communities. Shortly after relocating, Morris reached out to Manhattan Review about continuing his tutoring work around his client caseload. Morris has been with Manhattan Review since 2016, and his students appreciate his calm demeanor, as well as his genuine interest in their individual academic goals. When he isn't at his psychology practice or helping students prepare to excel on the GRE, Morris can be found eating his aunt's neighborhood-famous matzah ball soup, playing the cello, and visiting traveling gallery shows at local art museums.
