The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) reports that the median weekly salary for all workers aged 25 or older is approximately $885, for annual earnings of about $46,000. Wages for all categories of graduate degree holders are significantly higher. A master's degree is associated with a median yearly salary of nearly $72,000, which is 56% more than the median for all workers. Individuals who earn a doctoral degree can look forward to median annual compensation of more than $86,000, while professional degree holders fare the best at $91,000 (these numbers are 87% and 98% above the overall median respectively). Although some fields pay more than others, graduate school is nearly always a sound investment with a strong return. If one projects these BLS numbers over the course of a 30-year career, a professional degree holder will make about $1.35 million more than the typical worker. Graduate school is clearly worth the cost, even if that cost is substantial.

Bill put in a lot of outside hours preparing for class and answering questions throughout the week. He really tried his hardest to help us reach our goals. I really really appreciated how dedicated he was to helping us.

Meet a Palo Alto GRE Tutor: Gwendolyn Y.
Gwendolyn Y. is a veteran educator who has been teaching GRE prep since 2010. She became a member of Manhattan Review's Palo Alto GRE team last year after teaching for us in San Francisco. She is equally experienced in group classroom, one-on-one tutoring, online, and on-site learning contexts, and has received rave reviews from her students in all of these types of GRE study.
Gwendolyn holds a bachelor of arts in English from Stanford University and a master of arts in teaching from the University of Southern California. She recently completed her 15th academic year as a secondary school English teacher, and she is currently on the faculty of a public high school in Palo Alto. In her spare time, she enjoys watching hockey, and her favorite team is the San Jose Sharks.
