These students might find themselves distracted by others or overcome with worrying about working too slowly, holding the group back or significantly slowing down the pace of learning. Alternatively, these students might find themselves bored and frustrated attempting to learn complex material in a group setting, particularly when they have mastered a certain concept but cannot move on to something new until the rest of the group has demonstrated similar progress. The GRE General Test is designed to closely reflect the sort of thinking employees and executives are required to perform in today's fast-paced business environments. The exam assesses verbal reasoning, quantitative reasoning, critical thinking, and analytical writing abilities, intentionally focusing on skills that have been developed and strengthened over a long period of time and can be applied to vastly different jobs and positions. GRE scores range between 130 to 170 in the verbal and quantitative sections of the exam, and the writing portion is scored on a scale ranging from 0 to 6 using half-point increments. In order to be competitive for the highest-ranking graduate programs, it is imperative to do well on the GRE. An average total GRE score is around 300, but for those seeking admission to the world's best graduate, business, or law programs, scores will need to be far above average. A score of 318 at the 75th percentile is considered "good," whereas a score of 329 at the 90th percentile is considered "excellent." At Manhattan Review, we can help you obtain those excellent scores and take the next step in your academic and/or professional life.

GRE Prep Course Chapel Hill - Photo of Student Sophia

I wanted to thank you for helping me with the GRE prep and let you know that your teaching tactics worked! I took the exam yesterday and got an 800 on the math, 570 on the verbal and who knows about the writing but hopefully it's not below a 4! The verbal is tricky with those silly words but I am happy with my score and ready to walk away from this ETS madness. Thanks again and all the best!

Meet a Chapel Hill GRE Tutor: Logan V.

Logan V. grew up in Salt Lake City and spent his childhood exploring his passion for science. "I was constantly looking up experiments online," he recalls, "and then recreating them in the kitchen, which probably drove my mother nuts, even though she was always supportive of my learning." Logan's mother was likely thrilled when her son shifted his experimenting to the science lab at his high school, and Logan threw himself into science-focused clubs and extracurricular organizations. He won the high school Science Fair two years in a row, and he also hosted a weekly science-fiction book club at his school's library where he and classmates took turns reading both fiction and non-fiction books and discussing the plausibility of the science or pseudo-science described in the text. "I was particularly drawn to chemistry," recalls Logan, "probably because I was so interested in reactions and explosions and creating new compounds." Beginning his junior year, Logan began volunteering as a peer tutor as his school's learning center, helping others who didn't love chemistry, physics, or math as much as he did. Logan performed very well on the ACT and combined with his high grades and other accomplishments, he received numerous offers of admission to his top choice colleges. Logan ultimately chose to attend Princeton University, where he pursued an undergraduate degree in chemistry.

During his time at Princeton, Logan made the most of his educational opportunity, participating in extracurricular organizations and taking on paid and unpaid internships and volunteer opportunities with nearby biotech companies to broaden his industry-specific knowledge. He also worked most semesters as a tutor in the university's learning lab, continuing to help others master the intricacies of science. "It was a great way to help others learn things that came easy to me—like algebra and calculus and chemistry—while giving me the chance to connect with students seeking to do their best," he says. After graduating from Princeton, Logan knew he wanted to continue his education by obtaining a graduate degree, and in order to be considered competitive by the top doctorate programs, he needed an impressively high GRE score. Logan worked with a private tutor through Manhattan Review to prepare for the GRE, treating it with the same preparation and dedication he'd directed towards the rest of his academic accomplishments, and his hard work was rewarded when he earned a top percentile score on the exam. Logan was thrilled to obtain an advanced degree from MIT, and he continued working as a tutor during his doctorate program until he graduated, at which point he accepted a position with a biotech company located in Chapel Hill.

After establishing himself for a few years at his new company, Logan began to miss working with students preparing for their own academic successes, and when a rare position opened up at the Chapel Hill office of Manhattan Review, he submitted an application, seeking a way to impart what he had learned from his own experiences. Logan was quickly welcomed to the team, and while he continued working as a chemical consultant to various local companies, he was delighted to throw himself into helping future graduate students prepare for the GRE. "It's perfectly fine not to be passionate about math or science like I am," he laughs. "What matters is finding and following whatever you are passionate about. When it comes to preparing for a test like the GRE, there are tried-and-true ways to obtain a high score, and if you care to learn them, I'd love to teach them to you!" When Logan isn't helping future students prepare for the GRE, he can be found visiting local wineries on the weekends with friends, hiking near Eno Quarry, and boating at Cane Creek Reservoir.
