It is common for aspiring law students to assume that a high GPA and strong letters of recommendation are enough for admission to selective law schools. We don't mean to minimize the importance of these credentials, but we urge all applicants not to underestimate the LSAT. Law schools heavily weigh the LSAT partially because it is viewed as an "equal opportunity" exam that presents everyone with the same challenges. Unlike university curricula (which can vary widely in terms of academic rigor) or recommendation letters (which can be subjective), the LSAT is seen as an unbiased measure of student potential. Another important reason for the LSAT's role in the admissions process is its connection to law school rankings. U.S. News & World Report, for example, uses the average LSAT scores of an institution's accepted students as part of the formula for calculating ranking scores. In short, higher-scoring students contribute to ranking gains, while lower-scoring students contribute to ranking losses. No law school wants to risk a downgrade in its institutional prestige.
Manhattan Review's LSAT prep courses and private tutoring have helped thousands of students in Stamford and around the world secure acceptance to top law schools, including Harvard, Yale, Stanford, the University of Pennsylvania, the University of Chicago, the University of Michigan, UC Berkeley, Georgetown, Duke, the University of Virginia, New York University, Columbia, the University of Southern California, Notre Dame, the University of Wisconsin-Madison, Vanderbilt, Boston University, Emory, Washington University in St. Louis, the University of Texas, the University of Minnesota, and many more. Manhattan Review's LSAT clients typically go on to prosperous careers as legal professionals. Among past students who have opted for the private sector, some are now lawyers for Fortune 500 companies, including Dow Chemical, Archer Daniels Midland, JP Morgan Chase, World Fuel Services, and State Farm Insurance. We also have former LSAT clients now employed by companies in Stamford, such as Deloitte, General Reinsurance Corporation, Charter Communications, Nestle Waters North America, and Pitney Bowes.
