The LSAT is purposefully designed to assess the skills required for the first year of law school. These skills include reading comprehension, reasoning, and writing. LSAT scores fall in a range between 120 to 180, with the median score being approximately 152. A median score, however, will not be enough to secure acceptance to a top-tier law school, and competitive scores generally fall in the 160s to 170s. The Law School Admission Council (LSAC) is the organization responsible for the administration of the LSAT, and they regularly track and report statistical information about those who take the test, analyzing their information as a whole while also dividing test-takers into subgroups. According to the LSAC, among the most respected law schools, successful applicants have an LSAT score in the 170s. In order to be competitive for the highest-ranking law schools, it is necessary to do well on the LSAT. Here at Manhattan Review, we can help you master all sections of the test, improving your reading comprehension and reasoning abilities while also strengthening your critical writing skills.
At Manhattan Review, we are here to help you accelerate your learning through mastering and applying the most useful test-taking skills, in addition to ensuring you have a thorough comprehension of the questions you will encounter on the LSAT. Whether you have been preparing for the LSAT for months or have only just begun to think about how you will prepare, our knowledgeable tutors will meet you wherever your study has led you and show you how to achieve higher scores than you ever dreamed possible. Our professional educators are familiar with the intricacies of this exam, having obtained their own impressive scores on this and other standardized tests, but our instructors are not simply exceptional test-takers…they are exceptional educators with strong backgrounds in teaching, learning theory, and academic achievement. Prep courses and private tutoring sessions are available during daytime, evening, and weekend hours to accommodate even the busiest schedule, and meetings can be arranged in-person or virtually, depending on your needs. Meet a Durban LSAT Tutor: Hugh R.
Hugh R. was born in Seattle, where his mother was a professor at a noted law school and his father was an attorney in private practice. "I never felt pressured to go into the same profession as my parents," says Hugh. "It just happened naturally. I loved how hard my parents worked to make the world a better and safer place, and I wanted to find my own way to make a positive difference in people's lives." Hugh grew up surrounded by a large extended family, and from an early age, he found himself particularly interested in the creations of his more entrepreneurial family members. "They were constantly creating new things or changing existing things to make them better, and I always wondered how their ideas and their creations were being protected, so they received the recognition and financial compensation they deserved." Raised with a strong sense of fairness, Hugh was an active member in his school's student government, holding various officer positions, as well as participating in speech and debate and varsity track. He took preparing for college very seriously and earned an impressively high score on the SAT. Combined with his high grades and impressive extracurricular activities, Hugh was accepted to numerous colleges across the United States, and he chose to attend Princeton University.
At Princeton, Hugh majored in pre-law and knew he wanted to attend the best law program possible. He planned to specialize in intellectual property, protecting the ideas of creative and passionate inventors like his family members, but as someone who did best with a significant amount of test preparation, he knew obtaining a high LSAT score wouldn't be easy. "Fortunately, I was able to participate in a group prep class that helped me immensely," shares Hugh. "I thought I might go crazy from answering so many practice questions, but it was worth it because on the day of the exam, I knew exactly what to expect." Hugh's preparation was reflected in his high LSAT score, which placed him in the 97th percentile of all test-takers and earned him offers of admission from even the most competitive law programs. He ultimately decided to attend Harvard University and upon graduation, he accepted a position with a respected law firm in Boston.
Hugh worked with leading international companies on issues such as patents, trademarks, copyrights, and trade secrets. He also began serving as an adjunct professor at a well-known local law school, and he was surprised at how much he enjoyed teaching. He continued to balance legal work and teaching for a few years until his wife was offered a promotion that required the family to relocate to Durban. Hugh was seeking a way to work with students earlier in their legal careers, and when he learned about the Durban office of Manhattan Review, he reached out about becoming an LSAT tutor. We couldn't have been happier to welcome someone with his experience to the team, and Hugh was thrilled to guide students to their own LSAT success. His courses fill up almost as quickly as they are announced, and his students appreciate his insight, calm demeanor, and ability to simplify even the most complex concept. When he isn't helping future lawyers ace the LSAT, Hugh can be found enjoying local curries, taking his children to the neighborhood park for playdates, and cheering on the Zulu Royals professional soccer team.
