The LSAT is purposefully designed to assess the skills required for the first year of law school. These skills include reading comprehension, reasoning, and writing. LSAT scores fall in a range between 120 to 180, with the median score being approximately 152. A median score, however, will not be enough to secure acceptance to a top-tier law school, and competitive scores generally fall in the 160s to 170s. The Law School Admission Council (LSAC) is the organization responsible for the administration of the LSAT, and they regularly track and report statistical information about those who take the test, analyzing their information as a whole while also dividing test-takers into subgroups. According to the LSAC, among the most respected law schools, successful applicants have an LSAT score in the 170s. In order to be competitive for the highest-ranking law schools, it is necessary to do well on the LSAT. Here at Manhattan Review, we can help you master all sections of the test, improving your reading comprehension and reasoning abilities while also strengthening your critical writing skills.
Regardless of where you are on your academic and/or professional journey, our uniquely crafted test prep services are perfect for your learning needs. We will meet you where you're at in your LSAT preparation, identifying and leveraging your learning strengths while teaching you how to overcome any areas of weakness that might negatively impact your LSAT score. Meet a Beijing LSAT Tutor: Elias C.
Elias was born in Austin, Texas, where his father was a professor at a noted law school and his mother was a lawyer in private practice. "I absolutely could have chosen a different profession, but I never really wanted to," he shares with a smile. "Watching both of my parents work so hard to change the world for the better made me want to find ways to give back and make a positive impact on those around me." Elias loved growing up surrounded by a large extended family, and he was particularly interested in the undertakings of his entrepreneurial family members. "I'd watch them come up with these amazing ideas, and I remember being really concerned, even as a kid, about how their creations were being protected." Always concerned with fairness, Elias was an active member in student government during high school. He also participated in cross country and soccer and played the guitar whenever his sister participated in school talent shows. Elias took preparing for college very seriously and was an active participant in the SAT prep courses his school offered. Elias did very well on the SAT and even though it meant leaving Texas, he was thrilled to attend Georgetown University, where he doubled majored in pre-law and philosophy.
Elias knew he wanted to attend law school, where he planned to specialize in intellectual property, protecting the ideas of creative inventors just like his family members, but he also knew obtaining a high score on the LSAT would be challenging. "I was fortunate to get connected with Manhattan Review, and I took a group LSAT prep course that not only helped me master the content of the exam, it also helped me feel confident on test day, because I had so much practice, I knew how to answer even the craziest logical reasoning questions." Elias performed exceptionally well on the LSAT, and his high score earned him offers of admission from multiple top-ranked law schools. Elias ultimately attended the University of California at Berkeley, respected around the world for its intellectual property law program. After graduating, Elias remained in the Bay Area for a few years, working with tech companies on issues such as patents, trademarks, copyrights, and trade secrets. Elias also began serving as an adjunct faculty member at a local law school, a position he greatly enjoyed.
When Elias's wife was offered the opportunity to transfer to the Beijing office of her company, Elias continued working in intellectual property law with several global Fortune 500 companies, but he missed the excitement and sense of fulfillment he'd felt teaching law students. When he realized Manhattan Review had an office in Beijing, he immediately reached out about the possibility of getting involved through tutoring, teaching, or offering LSAT preparation workshops. Elias began offering group courses in the evenings and on weekends, and his prep courses filled up almost as fast as they were announced. Elias's students appreciate his kindness and always note in their feedback how supportive he is. "Nothing makes me happier than when my students succeed," smiles Elias. "I love when they tell me about their own academic or professional successes, and it's still such a thrill when they email and say, ‘Hey, I just got accepted to the law school of my dreams!'" When he isn't protecting inventors or preparing future lawyers, Elias can be found strolling through his local neighborhood with his wife and son, attending quarterly book fairs in Ditan Park, and visiting family back in Texas.
