Meet a Portland TOEFL Tutor: Claudine H.

Graduating from the University of Oregon with a B.A. in International Economics and Spanish, Claudine finished with a growing roster of tutoring gigs. She has the unique ability to grasp language arts skills and contagious sense of humor and solid teaching skills make tutoring an obvious role for her. Soon after her undergraduate program began, Claudine went overseas to Spain where she intended to teach English as a second language. She lived with a family who had two high school boys who needed a live-in tutor for a semester. She coached them to bring home all A's much to their parents delight!

Claudine explains that her love of dabbling in foreign languages was discovered from her highly competitive TOEFL score. From there, she began taking language courses and quickly discovered that all Romance languages are derived from Latin. By becoming fluent in Spanish and French, she realized she could "guess" the meanings of numerous English-language derivatives too. Outside the classroom, Claudine is a serious movie buff and especially enjoys foreign films. Her favorites include "Amelie" and "The Motorcycle Diaries."
