Meet an Overland Park TOEFL Tutor: Claudine H.

Claudine is our Midwesterner who graduated with a B.A. in Spanish and International Economics from the University of Kansas. Upon graduation, she already had a list of tutoring gigs and years of experience here and abroad. Her unique ability to understand languages, solid teaching skills and her contagious sense of humor, made tutoring quite an obvious role for Claudine. Her first taste of tutoring came while in her undergraduate program when she went overseas to teach English as a second language. Claudine was a live-in tutor for a family's two high school boys in Spain. During her time there, she helped them boost their grades and bring home all A's- much to their parents' surprise!

Claudine explains her highly competitive TOEFL score results are from her love of dabbling in foreign languages. One such example she explains is that all Romance languages are derived from Latin so by being fluent in French and Spanish one can learn how to 'guess' the meanings of any English-derivative as well. This elastic knowledge of languages has benefited Claudine in more ways than one, being able to better communicate with her class and expanding her vocabulary in several languages this way. Outside the classroom, Claudine is a self-described movie buff, specifically in foreign films such as, "Amelie" and the "The Motorcycle Diaries,” which are at the top of her list.
