Meet a Cape Town TOEFL Tutor: Gloria H.

Gloria studied at Princeton University where she received her degree in English Language and Literature. She started a career in journalism, but the setback of newspaper layoffs left her reevaluating her career goals. Gloria would quickly find that this was a blessing in disguise.

Contacting Princeton's career counseling services center, Gloria reviewed the options that lay ahead. Ultimately, she chose a course of action that surprised even herself. She joined the Peace Corps and traveled the world to make an impact and help teach English to non-native speakers. Using everything from her favorite works of literature to classic comic books and juicy gossip magazines, Gloria realized that her true calling came in the form of connecting with students eager for hands-on education.

While in the Peace Corps, Gloria met her now-husband Dave, a spirited musician, activist, and outdoors enthusiast who resided in South Africa. The two continued to travel and even settled down close to Gloria's family in upstate New York. She was teaching in the public school system, and he had taken on a satisfying role at a local nature preservation society. When the couple realized a first child was on the way, they decided to return to Dave's roots – close to his family and a host of new opportunities for the couple.

Fast-forward a few years, and Gloria is the glowing mother of an active five-year-old boy. During this time, Gloria also connected with Manhattan Review and proved herself the perfect fit as a TOEFL private tutor in Cape Town. Equipped with her expertise and our efficient course syllabus, her students have proven unstoppable in their pursuit of English language efficiency.
