Meet a Bellevue TOEFL Tutor: Claudine H.

Claudine finished her B.A. in International Economics and Spanish at Washington State University with a roster full of tutoring gigs. While her unique ability to grasp language arts skills initially made tutoring a great choice, her solid teaching skills and contagious sense of humor made her great at it. While in her undergraduate program Claudine traveled overseas to Spain to teach English as a second language. As a live-in tutor for a family's two high school boys for a semester, Claudine was able to help them bring home all A's and boost their grades- much to their parent's delight!

Claudine describes her love of language for her highly competitive TOEFL results. Dabbling in foreign languages has helped her become fluent in three languages and she teaches her students Romance languages are derived from Latin so one can learn how to 'guess' the meanings of innumerable English-language derivatives as well. This type of elastic knowledge in language has helped Claudine effectively communicate with her class and also expand her vocabularies in several languages. A serious movie buff, Claudine is especially passionate about foreign films, stating "Amelie" and "The Motorcycle Diaries" are her go-to favorites!
