A SAT Private Tutor is the fully customizable prep option

Students seeking a uniquely personalized approach to their SAT preparation should look to Manhattan Review for the best private tutoring options available. Manhattan Review's SAT private tutoring program can be taken either by itself as a primary option, or in combination with our SAT group courses.

After expressing interest in a tutoring program, students are offered a choice of tutors to determine who best fits their individual needs and learning style. After selecting a potential tutor, a complementary discussion is then arranged to ensure you are matched with your ideal instructor. Our tutors work closely with students to set realistic, yet ambitious, learning goals, in addition to developing an optimal strategy to reach those goals. This is accomplished by identifying each student's academic strengths and weaknesses. Every tutoring session is focused on helping you master test-related content in the most time-efficient manner possible. Key test-taking techniques and fundamental building blocks are covered in-depth throughout the tutoring program, and this process ensures students are thoroughly equipped to achieve the high percentile scores required for the most competitive and prestigious undergraduate programs.

Our highly experienced SAT tutors work closely with you to create and implement an individualized lesson plan based specifically on your learning style, test-taking needs, and SAT goals. Tutoring sessions can be held in-person or online depending on student preference and tutor availability. If you opt for in-person sessions, you can meet with your tutor at any location that is mutually convenient for both parties. Students who choose an online tutoring option have the advantage of participating in their sessions from the comfort and privacy of their own home or anywhere with a stable internet connection. This offers additional flexibility in scheduling while avoiding any study time being lost due to traffic or unexpected travel-related difficulties.

Tutoring with or without a group course – it's your choice!

While group prep courses provide carefully structured study time through introducing new topics each week, supplementing group learning with private tutoring can lead to optimal SAT preparation. The flexible scheduling and personalized lesson planning offered by our private tutoring packages can help you significantly improve in any weak areas, resulting in a higher score and a more even performance on the day of your exam.

No matter where you are in the process of preparing for the SAT, Manhattan Review has a tutoring package that is just right for you. Our instructors use their initial tutoring session with a student to assess strengths and weaknesses before outlining a customized lesson plan based upon the student's needs and expectations. The lesson plan is very flexible, and it is always updated and altered depending on how you are responding to the content of the lessons. Manhattan Review's SAT private tutoring services are quickly becoming the preferred method of test preparation due in large part to the dedication our tutors show to each Manhattan Review client. We recommend that students enroll in a tutoring package as early as possible to secure a spot in their desired tutor's schedule. The sooner you select a test preparation option, the sooner your tutor can start the process of collaboratively creating a personalized curriculum that is sure to lead to an impressively high SAT score.

Here are some of the highlights of working with Manhattan Review SAT Tutors:

Highly Selective Pool of SAT Instructors

Manhattan Review is highly regarded for its selective hiring process of instructors and tutors. We not only expect high scores from our instructors…we also expect a passion for helping their students progress and obtain their own high scores. Our instructors are gifted, talented, and friendly individuals who are eager to help you obtain the SAT score you need to attend the college or university of your dreams.

SAT Tutoring Sessions: Flexibility and Customization

Our private tutoring programs are created to be personalized to the needs of each individual student. Our tutors have years of experience assessing student needs and creating customized lesson plans, which means you can be confident that you are enrolling in a program that places you and your test performance improvement as the highest priority. Tutors use a variety of tools and factors when personalizing our curricula to a particular student's needs, including discussions about the student's academic background, diagnostic tests, and practice questions. When a program of study has been designed specifically for you, you are able to learn in the most efficient and effective manner possible. Our customized lesson plans allow students to prioritize their SAT needs, and our tutors are experts at tailoring the learning process for each individual student.

Private tutoring programs also offer flexible scheduling that is perfect for students who are always on the move and have very little free time in their schedules. Your tutor will assign you work to complete outside of your scheduled sessions, and doing these assignments is critical to your preparation process. Manhattan Review regularly updates our curriculum to ensure we are using the most current teaching methods and providing the most cutting-edge preparation processes available to motivated learners. Our commitment to test prep perfection is why we remain the leader in the instructional industry, a position we have proudly held since being founded in 1999.

SAT Tutors are available in-person and online

Manhattan Review offers in-person tutoring in a multitude of cities, as well as online tutoring options around the world. In the past, students have often preferred in-person tutoring sessions, but there has been a dramatic shift in this over the last few years, with an increasing number of students now choosing to complete an online SAT preparation option. This shift can be explained by considering a few important factors.

To begin with, current learning technology makes an online learning experience almost indistinguishable from an in-person session. The online platform used in private tutoring sessions includes a whiteboard, which both you and your instructor can write on just as if you were both writing on the same piece of paper. The video aspect of our online learning system allows you and your tutor to see each other in real time, which creates a comfortable, personal experience indistinguishable from the one you would receive while completing in-person sessions. But the other reason online learning has become so popular is due to the fact that Manhattan Review's world-class tutors are available to work remotely with students anywhere in the world.

With in-person tutoring, you are understandably limited to those tutors who are located in your area, which will vary greatly depending on the demand for tutoring where you live. With an online tutoring option, you can draw on the skills of highly experienced tutors located anywhere in the world, giving you the chance to work with a passionate and experienced educator who perfectly fits your study goals and learning style. Regardless of whether you choose to take advantage of remote test prep options or prefer working with a tutor in-person, Manhattan Review has all of your SAT prep needs covered. Our academic advisors are happy to discuss the best tutoring program for you and are eager to assist you in connecting with just the right virtual or in-person instructor.

For Parents/Caregivers:

Manhattan Review prides itself on being a boutique test prep company, which means we can dedicate more resources than most firms to our hiring process. This ensures we ultimately hire only those educators with both superb test-taking and teaching skills. Working with a tutor who has both strong experience teaching standardized tests and who attained their own elite SAT score gives students the best chance of scoring in the highest percentiles. From our significant experience in the test prep industry, we have learned that taking an exam and teaching others how to take an exam are two entirely separate skills. If a potential tutor has achieved their own very high SAT score yet cannot effectively and enthusiastically teach students to comprehend test content, they are not a good fit for our company and will not be hired. We are dedicated to hiring only those instructors who convey test-related information in ways that can be tailored to each student's unique learning style.

To understand what sets Manhattan Review apart from other test prep companies in this regard, it is helpful to consider the origins of the firm. Manhattan Review was conceptualized and started at an Ivy League business school, namely, Columbia Business School in New York City. In addition to being pedagogically trained, Manhattan Review's founder went on to become a leading academic, eventually accepting a position as a professor at a prestigious European business school. The rigors of academia, including serving on hiring committees and learning to evaluate the teaching potential of impressive applicants, resulted in important experiences that shaped the founder's vision for Manhattan Review. A commitment to unparalleled test preparation through the use of cutting-edge educational techniques explains why Manhattan Review's tutoring options are consistently considered the best choice for serious SAT students.

Because of the highly selective hiring process conducted by Manhattan Review, our instructors are well-rounded individuals capable of comprehensively teaching all areas of test preparation. This involves effectively preparing a student for the SAT through diagnostic tests, intentional lesson planning, and the use of varied, research-supported teaching methods. We aim to make sure each student receives the personalized attention and targeted expertise they deserve when preparing for this potentially life-changing exam.

The proven Manhattan Review Process makes the difference

Once a student has expressed interest in one or more of our services, what follows is a simple two-part process. First, all prospective students speak with an academic advisor, which gives the student the opportunity to provide background information on any SAT prep they've already done, as well as their test timeline and study goals. Academic advisors are trained to help each student identify the optimal course or tutor for their unique test-prep needs. If the student selects a private tutoring program, the academic advisor pairs them with a tutor. An introductory meeting between the student and their potential tutor is then arranged so the student can become more familiar with who they might be working with. More often than not, the student is matched with their ideal tutor, due to the impressive experience of our academic advisors. If, however, the student wishes to speak with an alternative tutor, this can also be arranged. We are firmly committed to making sure every student is satisfied with the teaching style and background of their future tutor.

It's also important to note that speaking with an academic advisor and meeting with a potential tutor are introductory sessions that are completely free of charge! At Manhattan Review, we believe it is our duty to demonstrate the value we can offer you before asking you to pay for any of our services.

What About Test-Optional Colleges?

As academic institutions attempt to move beyond the Covid-19 pandemic, many colleges are once again requiring students to submit standardized test scores—from the SAT or ACT—as part of their application. Some colleges, however, have chosen to remain test optional for another year or two. What does that mean for students preparing their college applications?

Simply because a college does not require a student to submit standardized test scores as part of their application does not mean test scores shouldn't be submitted. Test scores can make a big difference when it comes to scholarships. At many colleges, even those where admission is test optional, test scores may be required for certain scholarships or for admission to specific majors or honors programs. Private institutions or organizations that award scholarships may require test scores as part of their scholarship application. It is critically important to verify scholarship and financial aid requirements when applying to colleges, because even though the college itself might be test optional, applying for specific financial awards may require the submission of test scores.

Test optional colleges do not require the submission of SAT or ACT scores, but should a student submit a score, it can and most likely will be considered. And this is a good thing! Consider the college applications of two high school students. The applications demonstrate nearly identical data as far as classes taken, grades received, volunteer hours completed, and the number and quality of extracurricular activities. Even though this particular college is test optional, one student chooses to submit her SAT score while the other student does not.

Which student do you think has a better chance of being accepted?

The one who provided more information to the admissions committee. Research from the College Board consistently demonstrates a correlation between SAT scores and college success: students with higher SAT scores achieve higher college grades and they are more likely to return for their second year of college. College admissions officials know this, and when considering who to offer acceptance to, they will always prefer having as much information about a student as possible in order to guide their decision-making.

The bottom line is that as long as standardized tests exist, there are benefits to taking them. And given that standardized tests can be mastered with the guidance of skilled professional educators, there is no reason not to take this potentially life-changing exam and ultimately gain acceptance (and perhaps financial support) at leading undergraduate programs.
