Meet a New Orleans TOEFL Tutor: Claudine H.

A local Louisiana State University grad, Claudine earned a B.A. in International Economics and Spanish while picking up tutoring gigs along the way. Her unique ability to grasp language concepts made tutoring an obvious choice for her. Plus, she was thrilled to see her students make progress where they once were stuck. Claudine has one of those contagious smiles and a remarkable sense of humor. She is personable and has sound teaching skills. Students often remark at how much they enjoyed her class all the while they didn't even realized they were learning the entire time.

During her undergraduate work, the International Economics program Claudine was in sponsored her to go overseas and teach English as a second language. While in Spain, Claaudine had the opportunity to be a live-in tutor one semester for a family with two high school boys learning English. Once Claudine began working with them, their grades showed improvement almost instantly. Their parents were delighted! Claudine gives credit to her highly competitive TOEFL results, which encouraged her to pursue her love of foreign languages. She has said on numerous occasions that all Romance languages are derived from Latin, and by being fluent in French and Spanish, she can give a pretty good guess of many English-language derivatives given this fact. This type of language expertise is what her students soak up every day in class while expanding their horizons for what is possible.

Claudine is set to depart for Spain again soon and hopes to meet up with the family she lived with back in undergrad. She wants to check up on her first two pupils and see where learning a new language has taken them. She constantly says, 'The sky's the limit!' Being an amateur pilot, she literally means this. If she isn't on the ground teaching vocabulary lessons and instilling confidence in her students, Claudine can be found in her little two-passenger plane flying high above the Big Easy.
