Aldous: The canal should be dredged. It silted up because we stopped dredging it in the eighties, and a canal that cannot carry a boat is not a canal but a ditch with a towpath.

Petrie: It silted because the mill leat was closed in 1978 and the scour went with it. Dredge it and it will silt up again within fifteen years and we will be back here arguing. What it needs is the leat reopened.

Aldous and Petrie disagree over whether
