Test Prep Services in Pittsburgh (Pennsylvania)

To most people, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania is simply known as "the steel city," but the truth is the largest city in the Ohio Valley has so much more to offer. With more than 300 steel-related businesses and 446 bridges, it is no wonder that Pittsburgh has acquired the nickname "the city of steel bridges." However, over the years, Pittsburgh has become the home for many bustling industries, including but not limited to businesses in aluminum, glass, shipbuilding, petroleum, foods, sports, transportation and computing and electronic industries.

As a crucial link between the Atlantic coast and the Midwest, Pittsburgh, named in 1758 by General John Forbes in honor of British statesman William Pitt, has a rich history of being an economic powerhouse dating back to its occupation by the French Empire and the British Empire before the U.S. laid claim to the second largest commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Pittsburgh was once one of the nation's largest producers of steel, producing nearly a third and a half of the national output, due to the growth of other industries, and it has been able to successfully hold strong from an economic standpoint. Look no further than the recent recession known as the Great Depression. During the Great Depression, while other major cities across the country were struggling to maintain jobs, Pittsburgh was one of the few cities that not only experienced the lowest unemployment rates, but also added jobs and saw housing property values increase in the area – a feat that very few other cities can claim.

One of the biggest reasons for the economic success story of Pittsburgh is due largely in part to the shift from steel and electronics to high technology, robotics, healthcare, nuclear engineering, tourism, biomedical technology, finance, education and services. Specifically, Pittsburgh is home to major companies like Allegheny Technologies, American Eagle Outfitters, Kennametal, Bayer USA, BNY Mellon, GlaxoSmithKline, Thermo Fisher Scientific, Lanxess, Chevron Corporation, Nava Chemicals, Deloitte Touche, Tohmatsu, FedEx Ground, Ariba, RAND Corporation, 84 Lumber, Giant Eagle, Highmark, Rue 21, General Nutrition Center (GNC), CNX Gas (CXG) and Genco Supply Chain Solutions. In addition, Pittsburgh has an impressive nine Fortune 500 companies, including US Steel, PNC Financial Services, PPG Industries, H.J. Heinz Company, WESCO International, Mylan and CONSOL Energy, that call one of "the most livable cities in the world" home, and some of the most prestigious schools in the world, including research and development leaders Carnegie Mellon University and the University of Pittsburgh. As a result, Pittsburgh is not only one of the best cities to pursue an education, but also a thriving career as well, across a variety of industries. Meet a Pittsburgh Tutor: Mark C.

Growing up Pittsburgh, Mark always knew that he wanted to attend the prestigious Carnegie Mellon University and study biomedical engineering. He also knew that it would take a lot of work to make that dream come true, but he was willing to do all the work to make it happen. Although academics were not always a strong suit for him growing up, Mark worked hard and achieved his goal. With a nearly perfect grade point average coming out of high school, Mark was well on his way to getting accepted in Carnegie Mellon, which he eventually did after acing the GRE on his first attempt, earning a score in the 99th percentile in the process. Once at Carnegie Mellon University, Mark soared academically and was able to graduate within three years, one year ahead of schedule, so he could then go work for one of the top biomedical engineering companies in Pittsburgh.

It didn't take long for Mark to discover yet another passion that he was unaware of. As it turns out, he also loves to develop talent. And after spending a considerable amount of time mentoring subordinates on the job, he decided to pursue a more formal tutoring position that would enable him to potentially reach more students looking to embark on any career in engineering, but particularly those interested in pursuing biomedical engineering. At Manhattan Review, Mark is able to accomplish such goals, which makes his joining our team of elite professional tutors a perfect fit. Since becoming a professional tutor at Manhattan Review in Pittsburgh, Mark has not only been instrumental in delivering the top rated services that students all over the world have come to expect from our test prep services, but he's also played a pivotal role in instilling confidence in our students and providing them with any assistance that they need both in the classroom and out. His dedication to his profession as well as our students, which to Mark is just an extension of his commitment to his profession, is what makes him one of the best tutors in Pittsburgh, and certainly one of the best at Manhattan Review.
