The vast majority of highly selective universities expect elite test scores from their applicants. At Brown University, the median SAT scores for the most recent class of first-year students were approximately 730 Evidence-Based Reading and Writing (EBRW) and 740 Math. More than 70% of new Brown students who chose the SAT instead of or in conjunction with the ACT scored 700 or above on each SAT section. Less than 5% of Brown's first-year students received scores below 600 on any section of the SAT. At Georgia Tech, where over 87% of new students graduated in the top 10% of their high school class, the median SAT scores for the latest class were about 685 EBRW and approximately 725 Math. Around 90% of all new Georgia Tech students who took the SAT scored 600 or higher on each section of the exam. Applicants who are able to achieve SAT scores at or above the median for an institution will have strong chances of acceptance, while admission for students with lesser SAT scores will be much more difficult.
