Default sc - as was the case

There are hopeful signs that we are shifting away from our heavy reliance on fossil fuels: more than ten times as much energy is generated through wind power now than it was in 1990
A) generated through wind power now than it was
B) generated through wind power now as it was
C) generated through wind power now as was the case
D) now generated through wind power as it was
E) now generated through wind power than was the case

I can get rid of A and E immediately, because we can't use than in this case.

Are you happy with the pronoun 'it'? Does it unambiguously refer to a noun in the sentence?

Default sc - as was the case

B) generated through wind power now as it was

In this sentense we have a comparative clause, "as much...as". So, we can easily eliminate options A and E. Options D and E also changes the intent by moving the "now" in the beginning which is also awkward. So, we are left with B and C. "It" in B is used for energy and also B is simple than C.

How does the sentence read if you replace 'it' with "energy" ?

Cool

i will go with B as it clear and short. Well here we have to check the idom 'as much... as' so from this option 'A' and 'E' will be out. In 'D',position of 'now' sounds awkward. Now the option left are B & C.
When you compare B & C, B sounds clear as compare to C.

Well whats the answer Kevin ???

The right option seems to be C

To avoid confusion of the pronoun "IT"
