Default Applying to College

Hello,

My younger siblings are getting to the point where they are preparing to apply for college. I took it awhile ago, and I know the test has changed. I have some questions.
So what are the major changes in the exam?
Also, what is the ACT? I've heard of it, but am not terribly familiar. Is it a different test you can take?
Are there any advantages to trying to get into early admissions?

Thank you in advance!
