Manhattan Review Prepares Columbia Business School International MBA Students in Cultural and Language Subtleties

In collaboration with the Chazen Institute of International Business, Manhattan Review will host a two-day English Language Skills and Cultural Interaction Boot Camp for Columbia Business School’s international students on August 13 and 14. This intensive course is one of the first international MBA student oriented pre-term programs with a primary focus on the uses, techniques and subtleties of Business English in addition to cultural differences. The goal is to effectively prepare incoming international students to manage challenges during their studies and internships.

The boot camp will address accent reduction, cultural sensitivity and etiquette, euphemisms, grammar precision, business idioms, workplace slang, precise choice of words, expressions by keyword, presentational skills and effective writing. As a pre-term program, it provides international students with a jump start. Through studying, mingling, networking and learning about each other’s diverse backgrounds, they will have a shared and unifying experience before the official start of classes.

Both Manhattan Review’s founder, Dr. Joern Meissner, and its CEO, Ms. Tracy Yun, are international Columbia Business School alumni. This boot camp is designed based on their years of successful professional and academic experiences in the US and UK.

"We are honored to work with Columbia Business School in preparing its students for a smoother transition to studying and working in a new culture and using a second language," said Dr. Meissner, currently a tenured professor at Lancaster School of Management in England teaching MBA students and a recognized authority in the area of Supply Chain Management (SCM), Dynamic Pricing and Revenue Management.

This partnership between Manhattan Review and The Chazen Institute of International Business is another step Columbia Business School has undertaken to further its commitment to preparing international students to stay competitive. Such customized training programs will equip international students with instrumental career management skills as they navigate their academic studies and early careers in a different culture.

"Given the substantial representation of international students at top business schools around the world, we are committed to continuing our support to as many international students as possible," said Tracy Yun, CEO of Manhattan Review.
